Afternoon Program
Q & A
We understand how special your child is and we are very excited to be a part of your child’s early childhood education. Below is some information regarding our exciting afternoon program.
Who is my child’s Teachers?
Miss Alicia was born in Southern California and has lived there most of her life. She graduated from UCLA with a degree in English and loves to write poetry. Her two great passions in life are working with kids and yoga. She earned her California teaching credential in 2005 and is thrilled to bring what she knows to Camelot Kids! Alicia lives in Silver Lake with her cat Annie.
Miss Kathleen currently holds 27 units in Early Childhood Education and has been working with children for the last 7 years and is currently attending Pasadena City Collage and majoring in Child Development and working towards her BA in early Childhood Education. Ms. Kathleen is a singer as well as a dancer. We are very happy to have Miss Kathleen in both our morning and afternoon Baby Dragons Purple programs. We have purposely placed her in this position so that she may bring consistency throughout both classroom sessions.
What will my child’s schedule be like?
Afternoon Welcome / Outdoor Exploration 1:00 – 2:00p – When dropping your child off at Camelot they have the option to either sit down and eat (their packed lunch) or join the rest of the children for outdoor free play. This also gives parents the freedom of bringing in their child after their nap.
Circle Time / Special Learning / Potty Breaks 2:00pm - 3:15pm –The children start group circle time in their classroom. They sing songs, play games, and share fun experiences together. After circle time, we transition into special learning; the time when we expose the children to academics, arts and theme based curriculum. Our monthly based curriculum includes Zoo Phonics (our alphabet program), Artist, theme, career and word of the month. This is also the time when we encourage the children to use “The Potty”.
Snack Time/ Social Play 3:15 – 3:45pm –This is a great time to bring the entire school together to have their afternoon snack. After they finish eating they have the chance to play outside and meet new friends.
Quiet Time / Potty Breaks 3:45 -4:15 - This is when we regroup together and spend some time quieting our minds and bodies. The teachers share stories, read books or listen to music. This is also the time when we encourage the children to use “The Potty”.
Arts & Sciences / Indoor Activities 4:15-5:00 – There are various theme based or sensory driven projects laid out for the children to utilize as well as our fabulous dramatic play centers for the kids to explore.
Pick Up 5:00 – This is the official end time for our preschool program. If extended care is needed (5-6p), we offer it for an additional $50 per month.
Community Time 5:00 – 6:00 - During our morning program we offer “open yard time” where parents are welcome to spend time speaking with other parents and teachers and enjoying our community.
Will my child be able to attend the Enrichment Programs?
Yes – we have three enrichment sessions throughout the year in Fall, Winter & Spring which your child can participate in. They are from 2:15 -3:15pm and 3:45 – 4:45pm. If you choose to sign up for any of these wonderful enrichment classes your child will miss their normal afternoon activities during those periods and join their regular class after they are done. These classes are offered at a discounted rate for our afternoon program families.
Yoga will be taught by Miss Heather every Wednesday afternoon and teaches the children various kid friendly yoga postures like “Down Diggity Dog” It combines postures, breath work, visualizations and builds their strength flexibility, focus and a connection between their mind and their bodies.
